Domenic Valela was born in Calabria, Italy, but spent most of his life in Montreal. He sketched continuously throughout his early childhood years, but also acquired a technical interest that evolved into earning a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Concordia University. During this time, he sustained his interest in art by continuously taking art classes as well. In 1999, a brief illness became the catalyst to increase his focus on producing art. He moved away from pure realistic painting by exploring more abstract subject matter. The combination of his engineering background and artistic leanings shows through in many of his works.
