Aleah Koury

Aleah Koury was born in Bellingham, Washington, and spent his early childhood in California before moving to the Midwest. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri (BA – Ceramics) and Southern Illinois (MFA – Printmaking). His diverse artistic background has encouraged him to be bold in experimenting with new materials and imagery.

Mysterious and complex, Koury’s pastel floral works are based on traditional landscape theory.  Foreground, middleground and background layers of pastel are laid down on a combination of mixed media underpinnings.  These rich surfaces are unique to the artist and produce a beautiful foundation for the final drawings.  Detailed leaves and flowers become the focal point and punctuate these atmospheric compositions.

Aleah’s work can be found in collections throughout the United States.
