Susan Piazza is a tile maker and clay artist. She was born in Wyoming and resides and works in Minneapolis and Arizona. Piazza studied Interior Design at the University of Minnesota and is a member of the Handmade Tile Association. As a child she gravitated toward arts and crafts and studied watercolor, drawing and photography as art forms. As an adult, her fascination with tactile texture pushed her towards fiber arts and papermaking that were more “raw” and “organic.”
In her own words… “My Deckled Tiles derive directly from my paper making days where I loved seeing evidence of the process… the texture, the blending of materials and yes, the deckled edges! Every tile is unique and oddly, this element of surprise goes against my personality patterns completely! I am a planner to the core and perhaps that’s why I love the clay process… it’s full of wonderful surprises and challenges me to remember we are not always in control.”
Piazza’s work can be found in collections in the United States, Europe and Asia.
