Russian Artists

Sergey Chursanov

Sergey Chursanov was born in 1961 in Gremjachie, Russia. Most of his childhood was spent along the banks of the Don River, where he developed a love of nature and animals. He attended Art College with a focus on art miniatures and later joined the faculty of the Moscow Textile Institute where he worked as a designer. But his true love was always painting. Chursanov finds great pleasure in creating scenes from nature. His work often incorporates architectural elements and is usually light, airy and atmospheric, with lots of texture. In addition to his many creative talents, Chursanov loves sports and, in his soul, is a soldier. He has achieved the highest ranks in Karate.

Alex Dobrowsky

Born in 1963 in Russia, Alex Dobrowsky showed talent at an early age, resulting in his attendance at The Academy for Gifted Children and later at the Repin Academy of Fine Arts, both in St. Petersburg, Russia. Later he studied with artist, Suvorov. He has developed a figurative style in oil reminiscent of French artist Paul Chagall that is primitive, yet sophisticated. His subject matter seems sentimental as it includes Russian folk images of musicians and peasants. Whimsical images of figures, both at rest and play, set in muted landscapes celebrate the past and remind the viewer of the days before high technology. Alex Dobrowsky has repeatedly demonstrated his innate artistic talents through his numerous exhibitions around Europe.

Eventov

Maya Eventov born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and grew up around art. She studied at the St. Petersburg State Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts beginning at age six. She graduated in 1987 with a master's degree in Graphic Design and began working as a illustrator for children's books. Eventov's paintings are characterized by a thick application of acrylic paint using a selection of different-sized palette knives. The paint is applied as both blended and pure colors. Smaller knives are used to create depth and detail in her paintings. She then uses a series of varnishes designed to create a wet paint effect. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, Maya immigrated to Canada where she now works and lives with her family. Her work can be found in collections throughout Canada, Great Britain and the United States.

Yevgeny Khrykin

Born in 1972 in Smolensk, Russia, Yevgeny Khrykin was raised in Kiev, where his father was employed as a graphic designer. In addition to Khrykin’s childhood love of drawing caricatures of his schoolmates and teachers, he also taught himself to play the piano and the guitar and composed original music. Khrykin initially studied architecture in college, but ultimately gravitated to art, studying at the Art College of Yaroslavl and the Art College of St. Petersburg. As a hobby, Khrykin constructs miniatures of churches, historic homes, buildings and mills, which he gives to his friends. His paintings reflect his love of architecture with the natural settings of sincere simplicity. He exhibits extraordinary attention to detail, combined with his great appreciation of nature, creating a realism that is warm as well as dramatic. Khrykin’s work is exhibited throughout Europe and the United States.
