Works on Paper

Art, especially art that hangs on a wall, is often assumed to be limited to paintings on canvas, but works on paper can be an interesting medium to add to one's collection as well. Our newly re-opened gallery embraces the fact that paper art is making a comeback, so much so that we've created a space dedicated to works on paper.

From antique etchings and photogravures (1899) to watercolors and antique maps, works on paper offer a wide variety of appealing choices for art collectors. We have some wonderful old botanicals, children's book illustrations, moths & butterflies and birds & waterfowl, as well as contemporary etchings, ink and mixed media work. It's a versatile and beautiful way to add uniqueness and charm to your home or office.

Photogravure is a photomechanical printing process begun in 1880. The print is made from a metal plate like an etching or engraving, using ink to form the image. A plate is made light sensitive, exposed to a negative, and then etched in acid. It was originally favored because it was possible to make permanent images of consistent quality.
